James previous area of work involved applied hydrology in the consultancy sector, utilizing hydrological and hydraulic models to determine the impacts of developments on flood risk and assessing water supply scenarios. He has also been a volunteer working in Indonesia on a community flood management project, developing the knowledge and commitment of local residents in managing their local environment and building rainfall harvesting systems.
