The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its Special reports on Climate Change and Land and the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate in September 2019. The Special Reports were responses to proposals from governments and observer organisations to the IPCC.
The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) has launched new guides in English and French which unpacks these Special Reports on Land and Oceans for decision-makers in Africa:
- The IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Land: What’s in it for Africa?
- Le rapport spécial du GIEC sur le changement climatique et les terres émergées
- The IPCC’s Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate: What’s in it for Africa?
- Rapport spécial du GIEC sur les océans et la cryosphère dans le contexte du changement climatique

The CDKN guides also include supplementary material from recently published research that extends and explains the points made in the IPCC’s Special Report. They respond to widespread demand among CDKN’s partner networks for region-specific information. Alongside these reports, CDKN presents ‘Communications toolkits’: a bundle of resources available for education and outreach purposes to encourage wide public understanding of these latest scientific findings for both the ocean and the land series.
